Kim Taehyung is more than just his visuals. His talent as a dancer and versatility as a vocalist has time and again showed what he is capable of achieving, the manifestation of which became quite apparent with the release of “Stigma” during Wings era. The artist has yet again proved mettle with his charismatic performance in the new music video.

Today, BTS has revealed the comeback trailer for “Love Yourself: Tear” with the release of “Singularity”. Adopting the narrative style of “Wings” where each member depicted an aspect of the whole, this time too, the boys seem to build the plot for their new album with individual narratives.

As per the dictionary definition, Singularity can be defined as “a point at which a function takes an infinite value, especially in space-time when the matter is infinitely dense, such as at the center of a black hole.” In other words, the term refers to the moment that marks the end of a state as well as the beginning of it. If we go by this definition, Taehyung (in his single) is trying to revisit the events depicted in The Most Beautiful Moments in Life series and connect them with his present state. The ending line “What I was supposed to do back then” poses a question that would define and determine the fate of other members in the coming tracks.

Contrasting its spellbinding tune that creates an atmosphere of nostalgia, the lyrics depict a lot of movement. The manner in which the verbs have been used showcase struggle and pain. The same becomes evident with the melancholic vibe present in the voice of the singer. But like Jungkook, Taehyung too culminates his narrative with a hope to see Spring. With an attempt to seek validation for his actions in the past, he is hoping to find an alternative that would change his condition in the present. In other words, referring to the idea of “if”, the song plays on the concepts of presentia and absentia.

In terms of musicality, “Singularity” is a slow ballad based on bass. Its spellbinding tune complements V’s movements in the music video and adds depth to the narrative. The concept is alluring and V’s aesthetics as a performer only enhances the experience for the viewers.

It seems that BTS is gearing up well for their comeback and ARMYs should too. What do you think about “Singularity”? Share your thoughts via tweet @CelebMix.
