A New Zealand woman has been extradited to Australia over the alleged murder of a grandfather who disappeared from his home in NSW’s central west four years ago.
Robert Dickie, 71, was last seen leaving his home in Elong Elong, near Dubbo, on June 14, 2016.
He was reported missing two days later, and a police investigation ruled he had been murdered, though his body is yet to be found.
NSW Police were granted an arrest warrant for Kylie So in 2017, who was later found to be living in New Zealand.
The 47-year-old woman was arrested at her home in Auckland on April 7 this year.
She was taken to Auckland police station before appearing at Auckland District Court, where her extradition to NSW was approved by Judge Eddie Paul pending coronavirus travel restrictions.
The court heard So and Mr Dickie had allegedly begun communicating in March 2016, and So had moved to Australia three months later, on June 10, where she applied for Medicare and bank cards using Mr Dickie’s address, Stuff.co.nz reported.
So was interviewed by police on June 21 - a week after Mr Dickie was reported missing - and left Australia on June 23.
The court heard police conducted chemical testing in Dickie’s home in July 2017, where they allegedly found an area of carpet in his room where “a significant blood shedding event had occurred”.
Earlier this week, detectives from the Orana Mid Western Police District travelled to Auckland to bring So back to NSW.
Officers escorted her onto a plane and arrived at Sydney International Airport about 10.45am today, where they immediately arrested her and charged her with murder.
So has been refused bail and will remain behind bars until her next appearance at Dubbo Local Court on August 19.
