Randy Ostin is the first child [son] of Mo Ostin, the US record executive who signed the Kinks and Jimi Hendrix and presided over Warner/Reprise records for three decades and his wife Evelyn Ostin.

Randy was born in 1953 and died in 2013, aged 60.

According to a paid obituary published Sunday in the Los Angeles Times, Randy died on July 28, 2013 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Nine years after the death of Randy, his dad, Mo Ostin also died. Mo died on July 31, 2022 aged 95.

Prior to Mo’s death, he worked for several companies, including Verve, Reprise Records, Warner Bros. Records, and DreamWorks.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 by Paul Simon, Neil Young, and Lorne Michaels.

Mo is a graduate of UCLA, and together with his wife Evelyn, they played a critical role in establishing the university’s Evelyn and Mo Ostin Music Center.

In March 2015, Ostin donated $10 million to UCLA for a new basketball training facility, which will be called the Mo Ostin Basketball Center. The Mo Ostin Basketball Center, a state-of-the-art training facility, was opened in October 2017.

Mo also sat on the UCLA Board of Visitors for the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture and The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and supported the UCLA Center for the Art of Performance.
